My Ultimate Makeup Must Haves

Over the past year or so, my love for makeup has grown tremendously. If I really want to over analyze it, and of course I do, in the very digital world I live and work in it’s a great creative outlet!

It all began with my love of makeup tutorials and product review videos. It’s an obsession. Really. I have lost hours of time falling down the rabbit hole of watching Nikkietutorials, James Charles, Breanna Fox, Jaclyn Hill, and the ever entertaining Jeffree Star.

With the help from my trusty YouTube makeup experts, I am constantly on the hunt to find the best quality, longest lasting products.

Here my current list of ultimate makeup go-tos that don’t let me down!

Side Note: You don’t have to spend a ton of money to get high quality products! As you will see, some of my favorite products can be found at your local Walgreens, Target or Walmart.

Another Note: I am recommending resources and products, some I receive an affiliate commission for at no additional cost to you. I would greatly appreciate if you would shop using the links below. I can guarantee all recommendations are my unbiased and honest opinion.

Primer is often overlooked, but it really does make a difference. A good product will prep and prime your skin for a long-lasting foundation, and can be a real game changer if you have dry or oily complexion.

Tatcha The Silk Canvas
Fenty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer (Current Favorite)
e.l.f. HD Mattifying Balm
e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer

Foundations are different for everyone, simply because we all have different skin types. My suggestion is to visit your local Sephora or Ulta and ask them to use their handy little machines that identify your color and formula match. You can also ask for samples of different foundations to take home and try before you buy, It really will change the way you shop for foundation!

Fenty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation – Full Coverage (Current Favorite)
Too Faced Born This Way Foundation – Full Coverage
Maybelline Superstay Full Coverage Foundation – Medium/Full Coverage
Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer – Medium/Full Coverage

I take my concealer seriously. We all struggle with dark circles and the occasional blemish. However, a good concealer will always come to the rescue.

Pro Tip: Pick a concealer in a shade lighter than your skin tone to highlight and brighten.

Tarte Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Contour Concealer(Very Popular)
Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define Full Coverage Concealer
Morphe Fluidity Full-Coverage Concealer

Loose Powder

This step is not a necessity, however I have found that setting my concealer and foundation with a layer of loose power gives my complexion an almost photoshopped effect. In my opinion, it locks everything in place for the day!

Maybelline Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder (Current Favorite)
Airspun Loose Face Powder
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder

Contour is a very scary word to many people. I am by no means and expert (i.e. Kim Kardashian), but I am trying to learn. With good products and practice it can totally be done!

Side Note: I only use powder-based contour products because I find them easier to use, so that is what I have listed below.

Profusion Cosmetics Contour Makeup (Current Favorite)
Morphe 8L Lo-Fi Sculpt & Shimmer Palette
Maybelline FaceStudio Master Contour (Great for Beginners)

While blush can sometimes conjure up pictures of dated 80’s fashion, it can also brighten up your face and add a little rosy color to your cheeks. It is especially important if you use a full coverage foundation. But remember, a little goes a long way!

I will be the first to admit, I am a bit of a eyeshadow snob. There are a lot of options out there, but I expect the products that I use to be very pigmented and blend well. So, I am here to tell you, not all eyeshadows are the same. Some are just way better than others.

Every brand has their version of eyeliner. Honestly, I think they are all pretty similar. Personally, I use a fine tipped liquid eyeliner for my top lid and a light colored eyeliner pencil on my bottom waterline because it really makes your eyes pop.

Full disclosure, I have been getting lash extensions for about two years now. I absolutely love them, but that is another blog post within itself.

However, there have been a few times that I was in between appointments and needed to use glue on lashes to add a little extra drama. Here are some of my favorites that are also affordable.
